The main points that make Hygienilac suitable as an anti-microbial lacquer are detailed below:

Hygienilac is supported under the BPD and HSE. It has been established for use in cosmetics for over 30 years, during that time it has been shown to be non-carcinogenic, non-mutagenic or a skin sensitizer.

Hygienilac complies with the current legislation and any future legislation that has been proposed, this gives you the customer, the assurance that the product will be around for a long time to come.

Hygienilac does not trigger R43 risk phrases on product which has the active ingredient included, when incorporated in to formulation at the recommended use level and in fact, way above the recommended levels. This is the case now and for any currently proposed legislation. The limit for labelling is 5%. Below that level no additional labelling is required.

The active ingredient included in Hygienilac has been shown to be effective against all gram positive and gram negative bacteria, it has been tested against. This included antibiotic resistant stains (ie Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

Cellular Mouldings support this data and can supply documentary evidence to support these claims. As Hygienilac is membrane active without specific key-lock reactions with parts of micro-organism cell is not thought possible that bacteria can build up any form of immunity to Hygienilac.

The active ingredient when incorporated in to the coating is immobile and has very low water solubility. This means that when used in coatings that are subject to wear the Antimicrobial properties will remain, so long as there is some coating left on the article. Also repeated washing and cleaning of the coating surface (with non oxidizing cleaners) over a long period of time does not impact the long term efficiency of Hygienilac.

The Hygienilac active ingredient has FDA approval and HSE approval for indirect food contact and incidental food contact. It is currently used in conveyor belts for food processing.

The Hygienilac active biocide has FDA and EPA approvals, it has a good ecotoxicological profiles supported under the BPD. Hygienilac is non carcinogenic, mutagenic or skin sensitizing and should not be required to be classified with an R43 label as per the changes implemented by the Biocides Products Directory. To be applied in Europe by the 28 th Adaptation of CHIP 3.
